Belize Civil Aviation

Responsibilities

What the Department regulates and how its responsibilities support a safe civil aviation system.

Our responsibilities

The Department is the regulatory and oversight body for civil aviation matters in Belize. Its responsibilities are intended to protect aviation safety and security while supporting the orderly development of air transport and aviation services.

Core areas of responsibility

  • Developing and administering national civil aviation requirements.
  • Certifying, licensing and monitoring aviation personnel and organizations.
  • Providing safety oversight of aircraft operations, airworthiness, aerodromes and air navigation services.
  • Supporting aviation security, facilitation and dangerous-goods compliance.
  • Maintaining approved registers, forms, technical publications and public information.
  • Coordinating safety reporting and supporting independent accident and serious-incident investigation.
  • Representing Belize in relevant international and regional civil aviation matters.

Service commitment

Each regulatory service should provide clear requirements, current forms, an approved submission route and a responsible contact. A submission is not an approval until the Department issues a formal decision through the applicable process.
